St. Ollaff Resort started construction in 1957. Its remote location meant building materials were difficult to acquire and shipping was always a challenge. It took almost ten years, but in 1966 our unique, unparalleled resort opened its doors to the public and has been a luxury destination ever since.

History of St Ollaff Island

St. Ollaff island was uninhabited when the resort was built, but it used to be quite the hotspot for sailors and pirates who liked their privacy – not everyone enjoyed the crowded streets of Port Royal and other bustling ports. Over the years, a series of merchants, sailors, and pirates set up outposts and temporary dwellings on the island. The harbor that was built in the late 1600s by these pioneers is still in use today for our expeditions to Ile Verte.

One of these sailors was a legendary pirate, who is rumored to have buried his treasure on Saint Ollaff Island. Nobody ever found the treasure, but it doesn’t mean you can’t find it – go to our shop for a fun treasure hunting activity.
